Design my own Outfit -COMPLETED

Design my own Outfit -COMPLETED

So I finally had a muse to draw something. And I couldn’t draw just one, I had to draw all of the ideas in my head. These are the results:

Kimono styled robe. I like the lines and the simplicity of this piece.

Military Cape. I would love to make one just like this one day.. Also the girl's smile is very mischievous looking...don't you think?

Gothic Outfit by Carla Lindsay

Gothic Outfit. I have a thing for corsets and red and black. I think I could do better but I don’t want to over do it. So I’m happy with the outcome

So another goal finally checked off the list. Been a while. I’ve been busy with life. But that is no excuse.

Another day another goal down 🙂

Start of a new project

Start of a new project

My friend and I are going to try make something steampunk. This will be my first time making something steampunk-ish so I have done some research and made notes for what I would like to incorporate into my costume.

Sorry for the crappy image. Don’t have camera at the moment. This is some of the stuff I plan to modify into steampunk fashion

We went to the ECOshop. It’s the first time I’ve been there and its a big warehouse with second hand stuff. Like a massive garage sale! So we scavenged and hunted about the place looking for inspiration. So far I have found some leather bags and belts, a curtain thing, material and some brass things.

http://www.squidoo.com/dressingsteampunk mentions knowing what character or role in steampunk you would like to be would be the basis for your costume. From this list fighter/hunter/explorer/adventurer are roles that I would be interested in portraying. The link also gives examples of accessories and types of clothes that would be suitable/characteristic of these roles.

So what I might need:

Hoop skirt

Compass

Boots

steampunk weapon of some kind

spats- make shoes look more victorian

maybe goggles and wings (I’m going to try for wings because it would be EPIC!)

Leather, cogs, brass stuff and more cogs and clockwork/metal things…

pocketwatch (very steampunky)

choker and/or bracelets, wristbands

Ideas:

Copper wire, inside of clocks, aluminium foil,

It’ll work somehow

Scarfs fashion statement

Since 9/11 (maybe even before then but it’s never been on my radar) I have noticed scarfs haven’t been worn like they classically would. Nowadays, wearing a scarf over your head would make you ‘one of them’. People are afraid to wear something a particular way because they are afraid of the stigma of being associated with a Muslim custom. What a load of crap! If it is fashionable or your own style then you show them up by being yourself. (Just for reader info- I am not religious/Muslim)

I own a flowingly  beautiful deep blue scarf. Sometimes I wrap it around my waist like a sarong, just wrap it around my neck. And sometimes I dare wear it over my head. It could be the amazing colour that gets peoples attention.

But take this example;

While at course I had left my scarf at my desk while I was busy doing some work. Some girls from my class were playing with it and mentioned Muslims in a demeaning way.

When a Muslim woman wears her headcover she is not allowed to show any hair, neck and I think even ears but I am not sure.  Western women don’t wear scarfs so rigidly.

All I am trying to say is wearing something should be something you enjoy wearing that is YOU, not dictated by the ignorance of people around you.

Plus there is nothing wrong with Muslims. They are human beings and just like anybody should be treated with respect just like any person- no matter what race, gender, or nationality. Not everybody is a killer. And so it is unfair to assume or make judgements based on these. Judge a person for who THEY are, not what category you choose to associate them with.

creative inspiration

It is the last week of level 3. And with the snow last week we have been cramming everything to be done by the end of this week.  I can’t believe it is two weeks into June already.

I met someone who has the most amazing creations. She uses a variety of things such as fake fur, horns and eyes to make sculptures, hats, epic costumes and jewellery etc. Here is here blog, http://huhuunderground.wordpress.com/2012/06/06/happy-hoth-day-6/.

After seeing what she has been able to do with a little ingenuity and creativity I have become inspired. It has dawned on me that Armageddon expo is in Christchurch THIS MONTH. 30th June/1st July at the Stables, Addington Raceway. And the plans for the Black Cat costume have been wiped out (as I was planning on sewing much of the costume I will not have time for it). BUT after seeing Wolf’s costumes I came up with a new costume idea. I have already started with the process of buying material, drawing drafts and asking my sewing friends for help (since I have lil to none experience)… But I will get it done. But that will probably mean the list of things I set to achieve by the end of June will be put aside while I try to complete this costume before 30th June

I will reveal more about my costume with drawings and such in another post.

alright busy as always, signing out.
