Goal 7/8# Design/create a costume-princess mononoke

I completed one of my most satisfying goals- create a costume. I made my very first costume/cosplay and wore it to armageddon today.

I was asked many times for photos… usually I’m the one who is asking to take photos. I felt really flattered and appreciated the attention for something I had put so much time and effort in. I also participated in the cosplay parade,woa I’m glad I was masked when I was on stage but it was exhilarating having people cheer for princess mononoke 🙂

Goal#7- Design a costume- Princess Mononoke Cosplay- Drafting stage- COMPLETED

I am in the middle of making my first costume/Cosplay outfit. I was inspired by my friend’s work on her own costumes that I started making my own. And with Armageddon on the 30th a deadline has also been set. I will be cosplaying as Princess Mononoke’s San.

The movie Princess Mononoke is one of my favourite animated movies. I love the artwork, the characters and the plot. The message is something that is close to my heart- Humans selfishness and greed taking  over the precious planet Earth. Here the movie shows the environment issue in a way which HUMAN and CAPITALISM is demonised… Literally showing the consequences in a medieva Japanese setting. San is a Warrior, wild and free from Human greed. This is what I admire about her. She has a spirit made of fire and wolf and of gods, which is why the locals call her a princess of the wood  spirits (that is the translation of mononoke- a neutral monster/spirit).  She is vicious and when Ashitaka first saw her, Intimidating. Hell if I came across anybody with blood smeared across their face and spit blood non-chalantly.. I would be near terrified. But she is  admirable. She is Badass and total kickass so that is why I chose to make my costume based on San.

On the way to a Creative messy success

I have spent the past two weeks focusing on making my cosplay costume for armageddon coming up very very soon.
It has been quite a mission and with the help and advice from a few creative friends I am making my way to my first hand-made costume.
as soon as armageddon is over I will post pictures. But now you know that is what I have locked myself in my dungeon and created a mess of the place recently.

 

creative inspiration

It is the last week of level 3. And with the snow last week we have been cramming everything to be done by the end of this week.  I can’t believe it is two weeks into June already.

I met someone who has the most amazing creations. She uses a variety of things such as fake fur, horns and eyes to make sculptures, hats, epic costumes and jewellery etc. Here is here blog, http://huhuunderground.wordpress.com/2012/06/06/happy-hoth-day-6/.

After seeing what she has been able to do with a little ingenuity and creativity I have become inspired. It has dawned on me that Armageddon expo is in Christchurch THIS MONTH. 30th June/1st July at the Stables, Addington Raceway. And the plans for the Black Cat costume have been wiped out (as I was planning on sewing much of the costume I will not have time for it). BUT after seeing Wolf’s costumes I came up with a new costume idea. I have already started with the process of buying material, drawing drafts and asking my sewing friends for help (since I have lil to none experience)… But I will get it done. But that will probably mean the list of things I set to achieve by the end of June will be put aside while I try to complete this costume before 30th June

Modern like me

I rediscovered my old DeviantArt account invented-space. It seems to have evolved and I am yet again new to its features and such. If you follow that link it should take you to the folder I am storing my 30 photos in 30 days goal, but you can check out all the kinds of things I used to do . Like Henna, landscape and nature photos, and drawings.

Anyway, it looks like I might have to start learning how to sew really fast… I discovered there is a cosplay contest coming up and the entry deadline is 29th Feb! So I have looked into my short list of watched anime, and decided upon Black Cat.

I am hoping to make the white shirt, blue Jacket and his [un]lucky gun in time. If not then I still have Armageddon looking to happen on 31st June/1st July. [then I will have my costume sorted! }]  {Armageddon Expo is NZ’s version of comic con? So I have heard, but being NZ it is way smaller..]

Yesterday night I went to capoeira. We learned how to fall the capoeira way. I felt it was not instinctive or naturally effective because the way you land on the wrist, but I guess if that is the way a capoerista is supposed to fall, I am just going to have to keep strengthening my muscles so I dont need to use my wrist… I don’t know yet. I think I am starting to remember the names of different moves. I won’t write them as I may spell them wrong, I know how to pronounce them though.

Last thing, I have  a very special ability, but I mainly refer to it as my curse. I am not Computer Science geek who knows all about computers, but I do understand how they work and how to get what I want to get done on a computer like most technologically minded person [geez I am only 23 ok]. [Do not talk to me about Macs, there is a special kind of rage I have for brainwashed mac-heads, so don’t even think about it] But for some reason, most of the time for NO REASON AT ALL technology breaks or fails to do what it should do. This isn’t limited to laptops/computers, no this extends to photocopiers, printers, radio transistors, Japanese car radios/ GPS and others I can’t think of right at this moment.

Ever since Hack left our flat, taking the media harddrive and part of the internet with him  [Well they did belong to him] we have had issues with the internet. But I have been hit the worst. While everyone elses internet simply lags or stops for a minute-to half an hour  before being back online. I can’t even connect to wi-fi AT ALL. I have to hang out in the lounge directly hooked to the Modem. It is extremely inconvenient. But what was worse even being directly connected did not work. This kept on going for 2 whole days! My flatmate trying to calm me saying its happening to everyone… while he laughs at his derpin funny youtube videos in front of me . Yeah thats right. What a little hypocrite. well at least you have internet, Mac-head. I also have suspicions our internet is biased towards Apple products because my Ipod Touch can get internet [well better than my laptop can]. Hacks laptop was a Mac if I remember correctly and obviously the hypocrites laptop is a Mac too.

Sorry for my rant. This curse is annoying for a modern world gal like me ;(
